In response to the state’s potential $141 million cut to the department of education, child care advocacy groups like Hawaii Children’s Action Network (HCAN) hope to preserve their work of outreach and advocacy. This is because most of Hawaii’s programs and social services are a “partnership with state money and federal money”, meaning that advocacy efforts amidst budget cuts are crucial to these programs’ continued implementation. Nonprofits like HCAN have been collaborating with other nonprofit organizations, as well as state-level programs, to advocate for continued funding.
